Compression Springs

Metrol are one of the UK’s leading suppliers of compression springs. We manufacture right-hand coiled compression springs with numerous wire diameters, inside coil diameters, closed ends, open ends, ground ends, various finishes and free lengths. We invite you to browse the compression spring ranges below to find the right compression springs for you.

What is a Compression Spring?

Compression springs are wire springs coiled in a helical shape, like the standard compression springs shown. As the name suggests, they compress under force, supplying a ‘push’ motion as they resist compression. This mechanism makes them excellent objects for shock absorption; large coiled springs are often used in car manufacturing to absorb shocks from bumps in the road.
Metrol offers other types of compression springs, such as wave springs and die springs. The latter are very similar to compression springs; however, they are manufactured with rectangular wire and are suitable for use in high stress and high force situations.

Metrol Have a Wide Range of Springs Available

We have five categories of compression springs to choose from in this range, including standard springs, conical, custom coil and stainless steel compression springs. View each range below to find out more information. Select your desired length, pitch, diameter and finishing material to filter onto suitable products for your requirements.

Select a Material Best Suited to Your Needs

Within our compression spring ranges, you will find the tolerances of our different spring materials regarding temperature. We manufacture springs with unalloyed spring steel and stainless spring steel, which impacts the range of temperatures they can be used within. You will find this information on the individual spring category pages and within the downloadable product PDFs that detail the spring dimensions and features. The compression springs with a wire diameter equal to 2mm will be shot-peened to enhance their resistance to fatigue and stress corrosion failures.

Compression Springs are Suitable in Many Applications

Compression springs can be used for many applications and play an integral role in many devices and systems. They are often found in the following industries:
  • Rail
  • Automotive
  • Robotics
  • Electronics
  • Energy
  • Manufacturing
You will also encounter compression springs on a day-to-day basis. They are used widely in computers, ballpoint pens, door locks and any battery-powered device as small conical springs are used to hold batteries in place whilst permitting current to flow.

Made-to-Order Compression Springs are Available

We can also create custom compression springs that you can order in standard, conical or coil. Simply let us know your required technical specifications, and one of our friendly team will be in touch to discuss and refine your requirements.
We’re sure to have what you’re looking for in our compression spring range, but if you can’t locate an item, please contact us, and we will be happy to help.
